Easy DIY Lens Hood

A lens hood will help reduce lens flare on your images. You can get lens flare when your subject is back lit. Some people love lens flare, some people hate it. Here's what it looks like:

If you want to avoid lens flare and you'll be pointing your camera towards the sun (even at an angle), you must use a lens hood. If you don't have a lens hood (either because you don't own one or you didn't bring one with you), there is a quick and inexpensive solution: coffee cup sleeves.

Coffee houses will put these sleeves on the outside of the cups so that you wont burn your fingers while holding the cup of scolding liquid. If you drink coffee, you may already have a sleeve or you may acquire one soon. If you don't drink coffee, I'm sure your local coffee house would be more than happy to give you one if you asked.

Simply place the small end of the sleeve on your lens. It fit perfectly on the lens of my Pentax K-30. It's that simple.
